The 18th United Nations climate change conference,  has opened in Doha, the Qatari capital.Over the next two weeks, up to 17,000 people will attend the conference. Delegates will be negotiating a new global deal on climate, but there are ongoing tensions between rich and poor countries."This is the first time the  conference is being held in the Gulf region. On this historic occasion, the region has an unequaled world stage to showcase the contributions being made to reduce the Gulf's food and water vulnerabilities, to put regional energy growth on a more sustainable path and to build a safer, stronger and more resilient energy future for all countries."

Si e’ aperta  a Doha, capitale del Qatar, la XVIII Conferenza delle Nazioni Unite sui Mutamenti Climatici. Fino al 7 dicembre prossimo, si discutera’ degli eventuali progressi registrati nella riduzione delle emissioni di gas-serra. I negoziati si svolgeranno peraltro all’ombra di eventi eccezionali ed estremi come la super-tempesta Sandy, che meno di un mese fa ha devastato gli Stati Uniti nord-orientali.  Si tratta della prima volta in cui la Conferenza Onu si tiene in Medio Oriente.

It’s a tragic twist in a story that made headlines earlier this week after news broke of Prince William and Duchess Kate’s pregnancy. The nurse who took a prank call at the hospital treating Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, for acute morning sickness is understood to have committed suicide.The woman reportedly picked up the phone to a pair of Australian DJs earlier in the week who called the hospital pretending to be the Queen of England and Prince Charles.

Un’infermiera dell’ospedale britannico King Edward VII, a Londra, è stata trovata morta oggi nella sua abitazione. La donna, Jacintha Saldanha, si sarebbe suicidata. Mercoledì  era stata involontariamente al centro delle cronache di mezzo mondo: mentre Kate Middleton era ricoverata nel suo ospedale, i’infermiera era caduta nello scherzo telefonico di un programma radiofonico australiano.
