Booking will open October 19th and close November 6th at midday. No exceptions will be made.
The exams will start on Thursday 12th of November at 14,30 and continue over subsequent days. Please check lecturers' CLA pages for details on 9/11/20.
The format of the oral only exam is per June and September 2020.Students will take the exam in pairs and receive an article to read and summarise approximately 10-12 minutes before their oral is scheduled to start. The exam will last 25-30 minutes for each pair of students.
The exam will begin with a short summary of part of the article followed by comprehension and synonym and transformation exercises.The stated level of the first year Magistrale exam is C1. As such those taking part need to display an advanced range of accuracy and complexity in their speaking, not merely communication skills. Phonological and lexical ability will be tested in addition to comprehension.
Please note the following:
(1) Have a computer, tablet, or smart phone with a reliable internet connection and a functioning camera + microphone. The audio on your device must also work properly, so you can hear the examining lecturer and the other student.
(2) The oral exam will be conducted on Zoom/ Webex. Make sure you download the app and are familiar with it before the exam.
(3) Have your personal identification with your NAME AND PHOTO and proof of enrolment in the LCLT3 programme ready to show at the start of the meeting.
(4) The code for the video meeting will be provided on lecturers' CLA pages before the exam.
(5) Institutional email only is to be used for all stages of the process.

Exam procedure
The exam will be sent to you via email
(uniroma addresses only allowed) on the day of the exam at 4.00
pm . At 6.00 pm send your completed
paper to both Prof. Wardle and
myself. Papers submitted late will not be corrected. Your
oral exam will be based on an analysis of the paper you
have submitted. The oral exams will be on Wednesday 11th, exact times
will be published once exam registration has closed. On the day of your oral exam you will be
emailed the link to the ZOOM exam meeting . Please have proof of identity ready
to show to the exam commission before starting your exam.

Depending
on options chosen in your Piano di Studi, you will need to attend either
the first or the second semester or both. Fuori corso students need to
attend both.
Semester
1 - Text Analysis - 36 hrs (this course is linked to 1048129 – English Language III)
The course aims to further develop the four
skills to C1 level with particular emphasis on writing and speaking. Students
will develop the skills to carry out a linguistic analysis of persuasive texts.
During the course students will also work on developing oral skills and will
give group presentations on a persuasive text of their choice. The final exam will be a brief academic essay
based on the textual analysis of an
advertisement.
Students are expected to do a considerable amount of work as
preparation for lessons. Every two-hour lesson requires at least two hours of
preparation as private study.

Semester 2 - Translation - 36 hrs (this course

traduzione inglese III)
Programme
The
course aims to further develop the four skills to C1 level with particular
emphasis on the comparative analysis
of Italian and English grammar . At the
end of the course students are expected to be able to apply their grammar
knowledge to producing correct written English versions of Italian texts,
completing cloze texts and structural transformation exercises. Students
will also develop
oral paraphrasing skills and
will be required to give a group
presentation on a comparative analysis of a feature of their choice of
the English/ Italian grammar systems.
The final exam will
be a brief translation ( approx.
200 words) from Italian to English.
Students
are expected to do a considerable

Changing
Group: Students requesting to change group need firstly to find a student from
one
of the other two groups to swap with then send an explanatory email to the
teacher of the original
group, copying it to the teacher of the proposed group explaining in detail the
precise reason for
the change and whether English is their first or second language. This must be
done within the
first FOUR lessons of the semester. Teachers will confirm the change after
reviewing timetable options and class sizes.
