ASSIGNMENT for 3rd/4th November

Analysis of one of the slogans given in class. Work must be handed in on 3rd November,(Group A) and 4th November,( Group B). No assignments will not be corrected after these dates.

OPPORTUNITY for Conversation in English

The Temple University of America is holding a Round Table so that its students can meet Italians and Italians have an opportunity to speak in English. This will be at its Rome campus site. There are no credits for this meeting, but it should be an opportunity for you to practise your English in real conversation.

ROUND TABLE Tuesday, October 27th! ROUND TABLE at 9:00 PM followed by refreshments. Informal get together in room 4 for questions and answers. Refreshments served afterwards. Temple University Rome Lungotevere ,Via Arnaldo da Brescia 15.

CHANGE IN HOMEWORK

As a lot of students have not been able to purchase the Sara Thorne text yet, the lesson on Chapter One of the same book will take place on 3rd November (Group A) and 4th November (Group B). For next week's lesson students are required to study pages 23-24 of the III year dispensa.

ATTENDANCE

To be a “frequentante” you need to attend 75% of lessons for EACH SEMESTER ( 12 out of 16 lessons/24 out of 32 hours). There will be a mid-course exam (written) in December, and an end-of-course exam ( written and oral ) in May,2010.

LANGUAGE LABORATORY

“ Frequentanti “ must do eight hours of language laboratory in the first semester and eight in the second for a total of 16 hours. There is a lot of new material in the laboratory . I will give you advice on what material to use during lessons. Conversation classes are also available ( four hours of conversation= eight of language laboratory) which you can sign up for in the lettori office.

COURSE WORK

You will be expected to do a considerable amount of work as preparation for your lessons. Consider for every two-hour lesson at least 2 hours of preparation as private study. This is a fundamental part of your course and you will not get the best out of lessons without consistent study. You will also be set two pieces of written work per semester. This work must be brought along to your oral exam.



WRITTEN AND ORAL TESTS

The course will cover upper-intermediate grammar as well as linguistic analysis. The written test will focus on translation( Italian- English) and the linguistic analysis of an advertisement. The oral exam will be based on a contrastive analysis of newspapers.

The assignment of students to oral exam dates with Prof. Ambrosini is PROVISIONAL. The exams have NOT BEEN MARKED YET and the oral exam is CONDITIONAL ON the student actually passing the exam. Updates listing students (from Minasola to Zago, using matricola) who have not passed will be posted in the days preceding each tentative oral exam date.
