MLI 3 Text Analysis - Written and Oral Exam   Winter Session

Written Exam Thursday, 14th January, 2021 - 14,00.

Exam description

Students are required to write an academic essay based on the analysis of an advertisement.

Use of dictionaries allowed.

Exam procedure  

The exam will be sent to you via email (uniroma addresses only allowed) on the day of the exam at 14.00.  At 17,00   completed papers must be submitted via email to both Prof. Wardle and myself.  Papers submitted late will not be corrected. Your oral exam will be based on an analysis of the paper you have submitted.  The oral exams will   begin on Monday 18th January; exact times will be published once exam bookings have closed.  On the day of your oral exam, you will be emailed the link to the ZOOM exam meeting. Please have proof of identity ready to show to the exam commission before starting your exam. 

Booking procedure

 From 18th December to 8th January,2021. Send an email to maria.hillan@uniroma1.it stating surname, name and matriculation number and ID document as an attachment. No  exceptions will  be made for late booking.

MAGISTRALE 1 EXAM JANUARY 2021

 

Information for Magistrale 1 exams January/February sessions aa.2019-2020

Online Exams:  January 15th 2021 / February 5th 2021

 

6 and 12 cfu students enrolled in academic year 2019-20 or earlier will continue with the 19-20 oral only exam introduced during the Covid health emergency. Students take the exam in pairs and will be asked to paraphrase part of an article followed by a series of exercises testing comprehension, knowledge of synonyms and the ability to transform sentences.

 6 cfu students enrolled in academic year 20-21 may take the exam early in either the January or February sessions and are required to do either the  paraphrase / summary OR  academic essay writing section of the written exam which will be followed by an oral test on a different day. The oral, exam taken in pairs will take the following format: a discussion on the content of your written exam, summarising part of an unseen text and  a freer discussion of the topic of the text.

N.B. The exam format starting June 2021 will be standardised and all students (6 or 12 cfu / enrolled in 20-21 or before) will take the written followed by an oral exam.

Important dates

Online booking will open at midday on the 18th of December and close at midday on the 8th of January. No exceptions will be made for late booking.

Booking procedure

Students will be able to book their exam via the link provided on Magistrale 1 lettori CLA pages on the day booking opens. Students will be asked to forward their ID at the time the booking opens. In addition, You will need to show proof of enrolment in the Magistrale at the exam.

 

Please note the following:

(1) Have a computer, tablet, or smart phone with a reliable internet connection and a functioning camera + microphone. The audio on your device must also work properly, so you can hear the examining lecturer and the other student.

(2) The oral exam will be conducted on Zoom/ Webex. Make sure you download the app and are familiar with it before the exam.

(3) Have your personal identification with your NAME AND PHOTO and proof of enrolment in the LCLT3 programme ready to show at the start of the meeting.

(4) The code for the video meeting will be provided on lecturers' CLA pages before the exam.

(5)  Institutional email only is to be used for all stages of the process.

Written exam format:

Magistrale 1 aa.20-21 (or before) 6 cfu students may choose to take EITHER the paraphrase /summary section OR the essay writing one at exam sessions.

 

Oral exam format:

The oral exam is done in pairs. Students are given 10 minutes to read an unseen text before

being asked to summarise the salient points of their article. A freer discussion of some of the

points raised ensues during which both students are expected to contribute equally. The final

grade is a straight average of the marks given for the written and oral sections.
