Magistrale EAAS/SLLT Lettorato a.a. 2019/20


          
PROGRAMME
This course aims to extend students’ speaking and writing abilities. All students are expected to participate actively. The course will cover a number of writing skills including, summary writing and essay writing, incorporating elements of academic writing. Public speaking skills include presentations and speech making. Students are expected to reach a C1+ level in speaking and writing by the end of the year
Students must complete an assignment in order to take end of semester ‘esoneri’. Additionally, 75% of lessons must be attended. 6 & 12 credit students take the same exam.
Students are expected to do a considerable amount of work as preparation for lessons. Every two-hour lesson requires at least two hours of preparation as private study. Students requesting to change alphabet division need to send an explanatory e-mail to the teacher of their group copying it to the teacher of the proposed group explaining the valid motive behind their request. This must be done during the first two full weeks of lessons.

                                       MAGISTRALE 1  TRANSFER REQUESTS
1. Switches will only be confirmed after first lessons have been held, specifically after Sept 30& Oct 1
2. Students requesting to change alphabet group due to a clash with another class at the same time must specify the subject, time and day of the clash in an email to the lettore of the group they have been assigned to, copied to the lettore of the group they wish to join.
3. Students who find someone to change group with will be given preference.

Non-Attenders exam
Part 1 reading comprehension with exercises including paraphrasing and summarising.
Part 2 a 400 word formal essay incorporating elements of academic writing such as in-text and reference citation based on the general theme of the text. A monolingual dictionary may be used in this part of the exam.
Oral
The oral exam is done in pairs. Students are given 10 minutes to read an unseen text before being asked to summarise the salient points of their article. A freer discussion of some of the points raised ensues during which both students are expected to contribute equally. The final grade is a straight  average of the marks given for the written and oral sections.

MLI 3 LETTORATO 2019/2020

PROGRAMME
The course aims to further develop the four skills to C1 level with particular emphasis on writing, the comparative analysis of the Italian and English grammar systems and discourse analysis being its main components. At the end of the course students are expected to be able to apply their grammar knowledge to producing correct English versions of Italian texts, completing cloze texts and structural transformation exercises. They will also write a brief academic essay based on the linguistic analysis of an advertisement. Students are expected to   do a considerable amount of work as preparation for lessons. Every two-hour lesson requires at least two hours of preparation as private study. Students will also be required to complete 2 assignments, one in the first and one in the second semester. To be eligible for the exemption test 75%of lessons must be attended. Please consult blog (see below) for a more detailed description of the course and the exam format.

MAGISTRALE I – LETTORATO WRITTEN EXAM RESULTS RESULTS – SEPTEMBER 2019 ( Gatti – Pulicani )



The table below contains the results for the written exam together with the dates for the oral exam which will be in office 203 (2nd floor, Marco Polo). Please come to your exam at least 20 minutes before time listed below.
Those students who did not pass the exam may see their papers on Wednesday, 18th September, 10,00- 11,00 (Room 203, M.P.)
Please read the instructions for the oral exam carefully.

Instructions for the oral exam
The oral exam for non-attending students is done in pairs and takes the form of an oral summary of an unseen article (students have 10 minutes beforehand to read the given article and may make notes on it if they wish but may not use the notes while they give their summary. This will be followed by a freer discussion of points raised in the article. 
Students will receive a separate mark for the written and oral exam. The final mark converted into a grade will be a straight average of the two marks.

STUDENTS SHOULD BRING THEIR 'LIBRETTO GIALLO' TO THE ORAL EXAM TO HAVE THEIR GRADE REGISTERED. THE 'LIBRETTI' CAN BE PURCHASED FROM THE PHOTOCOPY SHOP IN THE BASEMENT OF THE FACOLTA' DI LETTERE.
