La settimana scorsa i taleban hanno sparato alla testa a MalalaYousafzai. Malala è una ragazzina di 14 anni che, a quanto riportano i media, ha mostrato un irriducibile amore per lo studio: per sè e per le ragazze come lei. I taleban hanno considerato questa attività come una minaccia al loro stile di vita e alla prevalenza della loro ideologia. Perciò hanno deciso di uccidere la quattordicenne, affinché servisse da esempio alle altre.

Questa è una notizia shoccante ma non è affatto nuova per me. Io ho vissuto laggiù e l’ho visto con i miei occhi. Quando nel 1996 i taleban presero Kabul, chiusero quasi tutte le scuole nella capitale e nel resto del Paese. Dal primo giorno i taleban hanno riservato una speciale attenzione alle donne e alle ragazze. Sono ossessionati dalle donne, dalle loro vite, dai loro corpi. Mi ricordo che nel 1966 sentii annunciare a Radio Kabul che tutte le donne che lavoravano, nel pubblico come nel privato, dovevano restare a casa fino a «ulteriori notizie».

E’ sempre stato  interessato  alla magia?

Da ragazzino ero un discreto  illusionista ed ero attratto da qualunque cosa che avesse a che fare con la magia. Forse perché  speravo  che ci  fosse magia nel  mondo: l’ho  sempre cercata ma non l’ho mai  trovata. Sarebbe bello se qualcosa di  magico  potesse salvarci ma questa qualcosa non esiste.

Che illusioni aveva da ragazzo?

Pensavo  che essere una movie star mi  avrebbe reso  felice. Che mi  sarebbe piaciuto  andare a Hollywood e vivere tra attori e attrici  bellissimi. Ma con il  tempo  mi  sono  reso  conto  che  a Hollywood non ci  volevo  andare. Che quella vita non sarebbe stata  la risposta a niente.

“ Se fossi  stato  meno  codardo il  mio  lavoro  sarebbe stato migliore” ha detto  una volta.  Che cosa intendeva?

Se  da giovani fosse stato  più  rigoroso e avessi  girato solo  quello  che volevo,cioè  storie serie e profonde, senza preoccuparmi del  successo  commerciale,forse avrei  diretto  film più  belli. Avrei  dovuto  avere più  coraggio.

Rimpianti riguardo  alla sua vita privata?

Rimpiango di  avere scelto troppo  spesso di  essere solo. E di  non essere stato  più  estroverso. Forse sarei  stato più  felice se avessi avuto  una vita sociale più  attiva.

E le donne?Rimpianti  anche con loro?

Rimpiango di  non essermi  sentito  più  sicuro:non osavo sognare che avrei  potuto  essere accettato.

Rimpiange di  non avere osato  con qualche attrice in particolare?

Quando  ero  giovane avevo  una cotta per Brigitte Bardot.Avrei  potuto  conoscerla , ma non ho  pensato  per un minuto  che qualcosa tra noi  sarebbe stato possibile.

Adesso è  più  sicuro  di  sé?

Adesso  sono  sposato  e sto bene. Ma non cambio personalità  da quando  avevo  14 anni e ho  ancora oggi  gli stessi  problemi di  allora.

Quanto conta la statura nell’amore?Secondo una ricerca dello psicologo GertStulp dell’Università di Groningen gli uomini preferiscono le donne basse, non per una semplice questione di gusto, le motivazione di tale scelta sarebbero addirittura rintracciabili a livello genetico. Secondo lo studio dell’Ateneo olandese le donne basse tendono a scegliere uomini alti e gli uomini alti le donne basse. La teoria è stata confermata da un esperimento a cui hanno partecipato diecimila coppie inglesi.

 Inconsciamente l’altezza di un uomo rappresenta per la donna una protezione necessaria. Al contrario la bassa statura della donna rappresenta per l’uomo un’ideale di tenerezza e amore. Non è tutto. Ha avuto tre figli, due dei quali sono novantenni. Quando le è stato chiesto come si sentisse ad essere la donna più vecchia al mondo ha risposto: "Sono molto felice".  Il direttore della casa di riposo in cui vive ha detto  che la donna non è sottoposta a particolari restrizioni dietetiche, ma mangia ciò che le piace.
