Pizza Hut Waitress Gets $10,000 Tip

It was just a typical day on the job at the Pizza Hut  for 20-year-old Jessica Osborne when out of the blue, she received a gift that would change her  life: a $10,000 tip from one of her customers. The tip of a lifetime came from a family of regular customers who  want to  be known as  Becky and her family. Becky said Osborne always came to the table with a smile on her face. "She was sweet and bright and cheerful and never complained," Becky said. "She was just a sweet waitress. "But Osborne had recently been let down by financial troubles that were keeping her ambitions at bay. She had enrolled in a local college but was forced to withdraw because of a lack of financial aid. She told Becky's family about the textbooks she had bought and kept in the trunk of her car and her dreams to become a photographer.

"I thought, 'This is a very generous person,'" Becky said, "and we enjoyed just talking to her, finding out about her life." Osborne got to know Becky and her family through their weekly pizza dinners, but she didn't realize that they had recently suffered a great tragedy. Becky's husband and eldest daughter were killed in a car accident, and she had been left with a large settlement.

Once Becky heard about Osborne's broken dreams, she decided to use some of the money from the settlement to make them come true. "We decided we needed to help Jessica and she was there, we were there, and it just seemed like the right thing to do," Becky said.

 According to a poll of 2,000 people, 5.4 million British tourists have uploaded their pictures within just ten minutes of arriving at their holiday destination. Twenty-five per cent of British travellers share a photo within an hour, although the average time people wait before boasting is almost three hours.

Among the top ten things people capture when using their smartphone or tablet on holiday are the “view from the hotel window”, “my bed” and the “surrounding area and landscape” such as the beach or pool. Almost three-quarters of those questioned  used smartphones to take and share photos while on holiday, with the most popular platform being Facebook.

What’s more, a third of Britons take and share photos that involve only themselves when they arrive on holiday, be it surrounded by cocktails, by the beach or pool, or pulling the latest trendy face, such as the  ‘duckface’ – pursing one’s lips and pouting at the camera.

The survey found that among the top ten photos taken were also “myself in sunglasses”, “myself in swimwear” and “my bed”. research found that 6.5 million people crop unflattering shots before posting. Men were more likely to do this than women – five percent of males admitted to doing so, versus two percent of women.

ROMA - La notizia della morte di Eluana arriva nell' Aula del Senato poco dopo le otto. La annuncia il senatore Villari. Il presidente Schifani invita a osservare un minuto di silenzio. Poi il clima si fa incandescente. «Eluana non è morta, è stata ammazzata», accusa il vice capogruppo del Pdl al Senato, Gaetano Quagliariello. Seguono momenti di tensione, si sfiora il contatto fisico fra i due schieramenti. «Si continua a fare l' ennesimo atto di sciacallaggio politico sulla morte di Eluana», replica il capogruppo del Pd, Anna Finocchiaro, alle parole di Quagliariello. Subito dopo arriva il commento del presidente del Consiglio. Una nota, dettata alle agenzie di stampa da Milano, dove Berlusconi ha trascorso la giornata. Il capo del governo ha appreso «con profondo dolore la notizia della morte di Eluana Englaro  ……… «È grande il rammarico che sia stata resa impossibile l' azione del governo per salvare una vita». La nota del premier appare accusare, fa riferimento all' impotenza del governo ma anche - senza indicare - chi quell' impotenza ha prodotto. Il resto del centrodestra è più esplicito. Gianni Alemanno dice che «questa morte si doveva e si poteva evitare».

E’ sempre stato  interessato  alla magia?

Da ragazzino ero un discreto  illusionista ed ero attratto   da qualunque cosa che avesse a che fare con la magia. Forse perché  speravo  che ci  fosse magia nel  mondo: l’ho  sempre cercata ma non l’ho mai  trovata. Sarebbe bello se qualcosa di  magico  potesse salvarci ma questa qualcosa

non esiste.

Che illusioni aveva da ragazzo?

Pensavo  che essere una movie star mi  avrebbe reso  felice. Che mi  sarebbe piaciuto  andare a Hollywood e vivere tra attori e attrici  bellissimi. Ma con il  tempo  mi  sono  reso  conto  che  a Hollywood non ci  volevo  andare. Che quella vita non sarebbe stata  la risposta a niente.

“ Se fossi  stato  meno  codardo il  mio  lavoro  sarebbe stato migliore” ha detto  una volta.  Che cosa intendeva?

Se  da giovani fosse stato  più  rigoroso e avessi  girato solo  quello  che volevo, cioè  storie serie e profonde, senza preoccuparmi del  successo  commerciale, forse avrei  diretto  film più  belli. Avrei  dovuto  avere più  coraggio.

Rimpianti riguardo  alla sua vita privata?

Rimpiango di  avere scelto troppo  spesso di  essere solo. E di  non essere stato  più  estroverso. Forse sarei  stato più  felice se avessi avuto  una vita sociale più  attiva.

E le donne? Rimpianti  anche con loro?

Rimpiango di  non essermi  sentito  più  sicuro: non osavo sognare che avrei  potuto  essere accettato.

Rimpiange di  non avere osato  con qualche attrice in particolare?

Quando  ero  giovane avevo  una cotta per Brigitte Bardot. Avrei  potuto  conoscerla , ma non ho  pensato  per un minuto  che qualcosa tra noi  sarebbe stato possibile.

Adesso è  più  sicuro  di  sé?

Adesso  sono  sposato  e sto bene. Ma non cambio personalità  da quando  avevo  14 anni e ho  ancora oggi  gli stessi  problemi di  allora.

La parola “selfie” è stata nominata la Parola dell’Anno 2013 dai redattori degli Oxford Dictionaries, per la crescita esponenziale del suo uso: una crescita del 17.000% rispetto all’anno precedente.

Selfie è definito dal dizionario inglese come “una fotografia di sé stessi, tipicamente presa con uno smartphone o una webcam, e caricata su un sito social”. La  parola avrebbe i suoi  origini nell’inglese australiano, e il primo uso sarebbe  stato fatto nel 2002 da un lettore di ABC online in un commento. Ma fino a 10 anni dopo il termine è rimasto molto poco utilizzato.

Del resto, è molto recente la moda di postare foto di sé stessi, a volte senza considerare bene le conseguenze: come è il caso della rapinatrice che ha raccontato il suo colpo su YouTube, o dello spacciatore che ha postato le sue foto con droga e soldi

La ventenne Jessica Osborne si aspettava una normalissima giornata di lavoro come cameriera da Pizza Hut, ma ha avuto una sorpresa che le ha cambiato la vita: una mancia da 10.000 dollari. A donarle l’ingente somma una donna e la sua famiglia, clienti abituali, che erano venuti a conoscenza del fatto che la ragazza era stata ammessa all’Università, ma aveva dovuto rinunciare perché non aveva i soldi per l’iscrizione. La donna ha raccontato di avere pensato che Jessica fosse una persona molto in gamba e generosa e che meritava di essere aiutata. La donna aveva da qualche tempo perso il marito e una figlia in un incidente stradale, e recentemente l’assicurazione le aveva fatto avere un corposo risarcimento in denaro: la donna ha quindi deciso di usarne una parte per aiutare Jessica, dandole una mancia da 10.000 dollari.
